Dear member of the FFII, Rene MAGES,

We are contacting you to give you an overview of recent developments in
the FFII, and to ask you to spend a few minutes updating your data in
our database. We have also added a new section to our web site where
members can see the protocols of the last general assemblies, and also
the activity and the financial reports.

Indeed, after the rejection by the Parliament of the directive for
software patents a lot has happened outside and within the association.
Sadly, many active members had to leave their active roles although the
patent industry continues energetically to push for more software
patents world wide, and well known software companies are pushing for
their own open standards definitions, which are not real open - you
might have followed these in our press releases.

On the last general assembly at the end of 2008, it was decided to
select a team board. The elected board has had (and still has) a big
deal cleaning up the legacy and modernizing our infrastructures, but
nevertheless we have also dealt effectively with important ongoing
developments like the European Patent Office Referral on the questions
of software patents, in which we have written and motivated many
statements explaining the problems of software patents, or our statement
to the US Supreme Court in the Bilski case. The activities are still
going on, and we continue to encourage your support.

You can see our activity and financial reports, and also the protocols
of the last general assemblies at

A new interface to the membership database is ready. We ask you to do
the following:

  1. Go to our new membership system and update all your personal data
  2. with your FFII-username mages. The URL is:

  1. Transfer your membership fee for previous years if you haven't
  2. done so already. Use separate transfers for each year, indicating in
  3. each one your FFII-username, which is mages,
  4. and the year, e.g.

  1. If you have a German bank account, and you have selected direct
  2. debit, then the membership fee will be deducted automatically from
  3. your bank account. Otherwise, please arrange yourself to transfer
  4. your membership fee for 2009. See http://ffii.org/Donations for the
  5. options we offer.

We will inform you shortly about the venue of the next general assembly,
in which we have many strategic issues to discuss. If you would like to
participate in the preparations, please subscribe to

Thanks for you support,

Ivan Villanueva,
Treasurer of the FFII.

P.S. Please help promoting the petition
